Rabbis for Human Rights - North America is an activist non-profit which seeks to mobilize its constituents. RHR-NA staff needed the ability to post content often and to segment the kind of content clearly on the home page. Flexibility in developing various donor pages was also a requirement.
The requirement to segment the home page into various kinds of content as well as have the ability to easily re-arrange the segments on the home page was a clear call for a Panels implementation.
At the suggestion of Content2Zero, RHR-NA chose a model of quick launch with planned ongoing development (sometimes called "Agile" development). This approach is distinguished from "Waterfall" development in which the client develops a full and (supposedly "final") spec sheet up front and the entire development budget is used build that initial iteration based on the formal spec sheet. RHR-NA was a great candidate for the "agile" approach, especially given their lack of experience in using a CMS to develop their web site. It's a common mistake for small org's to use up their budget developing something that they later realize was the wrong thing. An agile approach can mitigate against that outcome.
